Pleasant Grove city leaders told residents Tuesday that the city is studying problem intersections and will increase outreach and enforcement following a series of pedestrian crashes, including an incident in a high‑school crosswalk.
The City Administrator said the city has "commission[ed] a traffic study" for 3300 North Road near Lincoln Academy and that police have been increasing patrols. "I went on a ride along with one of our officers a couple months ago. He wrote six tickets in about 30 minutes," the City Administrator said, adding that the city is also preparing social‑media outreach through PR staffer Lisa Flinders to remind drivers and pedestrians to be safe.
City officials said they investigate each serious incident and assess whether engineering, signs or enforcement could reduce future crashes. At the same time, the administrator emphasized the role of individual behavior: "We have human beings that are operating vehicles. We have human beings that are crossing our roads," he said, noting that the city cannot control every driver’s actions.
The remarks came during a preface to the meeting’s public‑comment period. The mayor then opened the open session; the council did not take any immediate legislative action on traffic items during the meeting.
Next steps described by staff include completion of the traffic study for 3300 North Road, continued patrols and a public awareness campaign. No timetable for implementation or a staff report was provided during the meeting.
