Kesanoff highlighted several carrier developments: Allegiant's announced acquisition of Sun Country, which she said could strengthen leisure service in Austin later this year; Copa Airlines extending its schedule to five weekly flights April–August; KLM reducing frequency from five to four weekly flights in June compared with last year; Delta adding seasonal nonstops (Cabo, Cancun and Kentucky Derby service); and Southwest maintaining a large local share though its seat share slipped from 45% to 42% year over year. "We all know about the Houston lease agreements that were successfully signed by the signatory carriers," she added, pointing to ongoing carrier negotiations.
Commissioners asked about cargo impacts from tariffs and whether frequency reductions (for example KLM) reflect broader market shifts; staff said they are conducting an air‑cargo study that will include interviews with manufacturers and freight forwarders and that more detailed results will be shared later in 2026. Kesanoff also said the commission should expect an international air‑service deep dive in February focused on goals, obstacles and market strategies.
