Jackson County supervisors approve permits, contracts, appointments and personnel actions

Entrance permit and engineering items: The board approved a farm entrance permit for Julia Perimsky on 50th Avenue in Monmouth Township following a staff recommendation by County Engineer Jamie Sheckin. Sheckin also reported that final repairs on the Moorhead bridge were finished and awaiting the bridge inspector’s final sign‑off; work continues on Channelworth bridge piers and approach construction.
Financial and administrative approvals: The board approved minutes from the Jan. 27, 2026 meeting and accepted the recorder’s report of fees collected for January 2026 totaling $38,046.84.
Contracts and personnel: The board authorized renewal of the county’s annual HIPAA training contract with Karoche Compliance Services for $14,459 and approved temporary $1,500 stipends to five audit/administrative staff members (Alisa Smith, Shelley Hoyt, Mary Stickley, Caitlin Decker and Nicole Straffen) to cover administrative duties following a retirement. The board also approved reclassifying a maintenance custodian position to a facility maintenance worker at $27.78 per hour effective Feb. 2, 2026.
Appointments: The board retroactively appointed a county representative to the Ports of Eastern Iowa Authority and reappointed two members to the Historic Preservation Commission for three‑year terms ending Dec. 31, 2028.
