Taos County commissioners approved a change order for sheriff's office renovations, increased an on‑call engineering contract by $1 million for public works design, and authorized an intergovernmental agreement to provide magistrate court security on a trial basis through June.
At its Feb. 3 meeting the Taos County Commission approved a package of contracts and intergovernmental agreements spanning public works, the sheriff’s office and court security.
Public works director Gilberto Jaramillo described a change order for contract TCC2025‑32‑r covering renovations for the sheriff’s office and related site work (concrete at the Cruz Alta entrance, new countertops, restroom upgrades, ceiling tiles, smoke detectors and a new window). Vice Chair moved the contract approval and the commission voted in favor.
Commissioners also approved an increase of $1,000,000 to the NV5 on‑call engineering contract (TCC2000‑438) to cover design work for two transportation projects that won grant funding: Tom Holder (approximately $537,500) and Cuyahuan Road (approximately $249,938). Public works said the increase will ensure sufficient design funding for the fiscal year.
The undersheriff requested approval for an intergovernmental agreement with the Eighth Judicial District court to provide magistrate court security on a trial basis until June, estimated at roughly 20–28 hours a week. Commissioners asked about staffing; the undersheriff said the sheriff’s office will be nearly fully staffed and can provide the requested hours. The commission approved the agreement.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote during the meeting. No amendments were recorded on the floor.
