Chief Engleman explained the map is the new state standard for determining WUI areas and addressed problems residents experienced when insurers relied on outdated maps. "This map, they'll have to use and the way it looks ... most every citizen should be okay," Chief Engleman said, adding staff can work with homeowners who face complications because of mapping changes by exploring building construction, sprinkler systems and landscaping options.
Councilmember Williams moved to approve the resolution; Councilmember Anderson seconded. The council conducted a roll‑call vote and the mayor announced the resolution passed unanimously.
What’s next: Staff will complete the cooperative agreement and work with residents who receive notices from insurers or who need property‑specific adjustments.
