Fire Chief Hurley described current staffing pressures at Station 2 after the addition of a medic unit that increased on-site staffing from three to five and said existing quarters lack privacy and adequate space. Facilities Manager Chris Graham presented the preferred solution — a custom double-wide with five bedrooms and shared living amenities — and estimated the structure cost at $161,690.82, installation costs at $94,930.83, and a total project estimate of $256,621.65.
Council member Angela Jefferson moved to authorize the purchase agreement; the motion was seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote. Staff noted potential future uses for the structure, including surplus sale or donation to a low-income housing program when no longer needed by the city.
What happens next: Staff will finalize purchase and installation logistics and return with implementation details as needed. The city indicated the purchaser would assume removal and transportation costs if the structure is later sold or surplused.
