Supervisors authorized the disposal of three sheriff's department vehicles and approved buying a replacement vehicle under state contract.
Staff described the disposals: a 2020 Dodge Durango with about 120,000 miles and two Ford Interceptor hybrid vehicles that have exceeded expected service life. The board approved a motion authorizing the sheriff to dispose of the vehicles and pursue trade, sale or auction to recover value.
Separately, staff requested permission to enter a contract to purchase a replacement 2025 Durango from a Chrysler dealer under state bid. Staff presented an estimated purchase price of $43,239.00 in discussion but the motion and the recorded figure in the minutes show a purchase price of $42,002.39. Staff said the insurance proceeds from the wrecked vehicle and a budget amendment will cover the difference so the acquisition should not require additional general-fund dollars beyond the budgeted amounts. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
Supervisors asked staff to verify final pricing and to proceed with the decommissioning and insurance process for the wrecked vehicle as the procurement is completed.
