Mills County approves two 35 mph speed-limit reductions near quarry and 221st Street

A second measure, resolution 26-08, reduces speed to 35 miles per hour for 750 feet north and south of the intersection of 221st Street and Harris Road. Staff described the change as intended to slow truck traffic as it pulls onto the roadway and to improve overall safety; the board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
Both actions were presented as targeted reductions rather than countywide speed changes. Supervisors and staff said the measures follow recommendations from a traffic study and will restore the posted limit to 55 mph beyond the posted 750-foot zones.
The board did not discuss a timeline for sign installation beyond authorizing staff to place the signs and seek applicable reimbursement.
