Will County approves Envision Fairmont plan addendum after neighborhood outreach and flood‑study coordination

The Will County Planning and Zoning Commission voted Feb. 3, 2025, to approve the Envision Fairmont Neighborhood Plan addendum 2025 following a staff presentation and a public‑hearing process.
Nicholas Hernandez, identified as the community planner leading the update, described outreach that included a bilingual survey sent to roughly 800 homes with nearly 100 responses, child‑focused survey materials, and multiple community events. Respondents prioritized flood reduction, drinking-water improvements, sidewalks, street lights, cleanliness, and more community events. Hernandez said new goals emerged from the outreach: beautification through cleanups and code enforcement, expanded communications such as a community newsletter or social media, increased community events, and modernization of utilities.
Hernandez also described coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on a flood study and noted that ARPA funds earmarked for the work must be used by the end of the year. Commissioners opened and closed a public hearing on the plan and, after discussion, moved to adopt the addendum by roll call. Henderson (sic) thanked staff and congratulated the planner on the effort.
The approval sends the plan forward for implementation steps including partnership development, tracking actions and eventual county‑board approval where required for long‑term commitments. The 30‑day public comment period mentioned by staff had closed before the vote.
