Will County staff brief board on Springfield filing deadline and ISACO-tracked bills; member highlights HB47 property-tax proposal

State legislative staff told the Will County Board that this week is the filing deadline for new bills in Springfield and that staff will compile and forward ISACO's list of tracked bills relevant to counties for the board to consider positions.
"This Friday, the sixth is the deadline to file new bills for this spring session," Matt Murphy said, and he said staff would add bills that pertain to the county into the Will County folder for review. Murphy also noted the governor's budget address on Feb. 18 will provide a clearer picture of budget direction for the next fiscal year, and that current projections show a modest surplus for the current fiscal year but a projected roughly $2.2 billion deficit next year.
Board member Judy said she would forward ISACO's tracked bills to the chief of staff and flagged HB47, a proposal she described as a property-tax senior-freeze bill that could allow qualifying seniors to deduct Medicare premiums from the amount used to calculate the freeze. She urged early review so the board could direct staff to communicate positions to Springfield when appropriate.
Staff encouraged members to identify county-relevant bills and said the county could take proponent, opponent, or neutral positions at committee stages.
No vote or formal positions were taken at this meeting; staff will supply the tracked list for board review and potential action at a future meeting.
