Augusta City Council voted to adopt Ordinance No. 22 60 on Feb. 2, vacating a recorded utility easement that runs under Augusta Middle School to allow a planned band-room addition to proceed.
Staff told the council the easement dated to a 1970 document recorded in book 302, page 235 but that the school and its service lines already occupy portions of the recorded easement. An unidentified staff member said the easement "exists roughly where they're wanting to put in their new fully band room addition there," and characterized the action as a legal cleanup to align the record with current use.
City staff reported they had met with the electric and sewer utilities; utilities said they did not need the easement for access and that the sewer connection is in the road. Speaker 9 moved to adopt Ordinance No. 22 60 (citing book 302, page 235, dated 03/31/1970), Speaker 10 seconded, and the council approved the vacation by roll-call vote. In the roll call, each named councilmember responded "Yes."
