Committee hears early talks on food-share pilot to reduce school meal waste

Hoenig said the conversation was exploratory and focused on workable approaches—parent volunteers, public-information efforts to change perceptions of food rescue, and small pilot models that could be acceptable to school staff and families. “At the end of the day, kids are hungry in every single school,” Hoenig said, framing the initiative as addressing food insecurity as well as waste reduction.
Hoenig said the group is still in the beginning stages and will keep the committee updated on potential pilot design and next steps; no formal motion or directive was made at the meeting.
