Anacortes approves two portable generator contracts for wastewater pump stations

The Anacortes City Council on Feb. 2 approved two contract awards to procure portable backup generators for the wastewater treatment plant to serve multiple pump stations.
Interim public-works staff explained the purchases include one 70 kW unit (contract 26048ERR001) and one 100 kW unit (contract 26050ERR001). Staff said the new units will replace older mobile generators used to serve about 10 pump stations and that funding will come from the city's replacement fund; the replacement fund will be reimbursed in future annual budgets. One pump station already received a stationary generator this year, allowing the city to reduce the portable-fleet size by three when these replacements are installed.
Councilmembers explained the rationale for two sizes: different pump stations have different load requirements, and matching generator kilowatt capacity to the expected load avoids under- or over-powering equipment. "You don't want to own under power or over power," staff said during discussion of sizing and load matching.
Both items were taken separately and approved by voice vote; no further financial details were discussed in the meeting beyond the contract numbers and funding source information provided by staff.
