Commissioners flag Timberland Regional Library concerns, encourage public input on Home Energy Score and note rural transportation grants

Several commissioners asked staff to invite Timberland Regional Library leadership to give an update after recent newspaper coverage about the library’s financial situation; the clerk said TRL provides an annual briefing in spring and staff will coordinate scheduling and share incoming public comments with TRL leadership.
Commissioner Klaus reminded the board of an upcoming public hearing on Feb. 17 for a proposed Home Energy Score ordinance and described it as similar to “a CARFAX for your car,” an energy-efficiency disclosure intended to inform homebuyers. Klaus encouraged residents to provide verbal or written comments on the county website.
Commissioner Grant highlighted an elderhood/senior alliance series and urged outreach to recruit more elder advocates. Grant also noted the Transportation Policy Board appears to be a call cycle behind and that a new rural community grants solicitation is coming, which could increase funding opportunities for local projects.
No formal board actions were taken; staff will schedule TRL’s briefing and follow up on the items discussed.
