Katy council authorizes MOU with Ironclad Wellness for fire department mental-health services

The Katy City Council on June 12 authorized a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (quote #1005) with Ironclad Wellness LLC to provide mental-health services to Katy Fire Department personnel. Staff said the original agreement with the provider was approved Dec. 9, 2024 by resolution 1677.
Chief Hoytik described the program as more comprehensive than voluntary resources the department already uses: Ironclad provides training for department members to serve as chaplains, on-site response including an animal-assisted component, and a more robust set of services than the city’s standard employee assistance program. Council members asked whether similar services were available to police; staff and the chief said the police department had other resources and had not opted into the Ironclad arrangement. Council approved the MOU by voice vote.
Staff indicated the MOU is intended to supplement existing EAP services for the fire department; follow-up tasks include confirming scope for tracking and reporting outcomes to council.
