Sioux Falls — The City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 21 to approve a commemorative naming designation for the pro shop at the new Elmwood Clubhouse as the Comstock Golf Shop.
Tory Meademo, Park Development Specialist, said the naming recognizes "Ev and Terry" (the Comstock family) for more than 70 years of service to Elmwood Golf Course and the local golf community. Meademo told councilors the Park Board unanimously recommended approval at its September meeting and that signage for the pro shop would be paid for by the applicant.
Council members discussed sponsorships and whether naming rights for the clubhouse itself should remain open; Parks staff said the pro-shop naming would permit future consideration of clubhouse naming or sponsorship opportunities that could carry monetary value. The council approved the commemorative designation by unanimous vote.
Next steps: Parks staff will coordinate signage with the applicant and proceed with implementation as the pro-shop naming is a commemorative (non-commercial) designation.
