Council grants MidAmerican Energy easement to relocate gas pipeline around Basin 15 project

The Sioux Falls City Council granted an easement to MidAmerican Energy on Sept. 9 to relocate a gas pipeline that runs through the Basin 15 equalization basin footprint in the northwest part of the city. Andy Berg of Public Works told the council the relocated easement will sit outside the construction limits of the city’s Basin 15 project, allowing the city to continue work without the pipeline in the basin bottom.
Council moved, seconded and approved the easement ordinance on second reading by an 8–0 vote. No public opposition was recorded during the item’s presentation.
Public Works staff said the relocation was negotiated with MidAmerican and the new easement is on city property north of the construction limits; the council’s vote authorizes granting that easement.
