Council receives updates on library, parks projects, fire staffing and Main Street lighting

Library staff reported a Veterans Day training day for staff with guest speakers and staff development activities. Parks staff (Dion) said contractors from Surface America have completed patching work at Discovery Park’s playground and that final items remain to be finished. Recreation staff noted a substantial rise in junior-jazz enrollment (up about 250 participants) and increased adaptive-program participation; staff will report participant origin (in-city vs out-of-city) at a future meeting.
Fire Chief Engelman said the department participated in North End County interagency training, aided neighboring cities responding to recent fires, and is recruiting after one firefighter left for another jurisdiction. Public works staff summarized the recent cleanup/transfer-station event as efficient but noted some nonresidents attempted to use the service; the department will continue ID checks and targeted communication. Neil said Main Street lighting materials are on site and the contractor expects a three-week installation window with work to finish well before Christmas if base foundations are ready.
The council moved to adjourn later in the meeting; the motion was made by Councilmember Williams and seconded by Councilmember Jensen and approved by voice vote.
