The city council voted to advance an amendment to the sign code that would allow larger freestanding signs along the Highway 50 Bypass in certain commercial and industrial zones.
Alex, the building official, explained changes to Chapter 152, Table 3, adding a note to permit larger signs in the general business, general industrial, and heavy industrial zoning districts adjacent to the Highway 50 Bypass. The proposed change would allow freestanding or individual signs along the bypass to increase up to 300 square feet, provided signs meet setback requirements and are not located within 75 feet of a residential zoning or residential use.
Councilor Muhr moved to advance the ordinance to a second reading; Councilor Toller seconded. The motion to advance carried and staff indicated a second reading would occur Feb. 17, 2026.
