Magoffin County updates: community center roof fixed with 20-year warranty; officials to explore water cooperation with city

Magoffin County Fiscal Court received an update on repairs to the community center roof and discussed local water and sewer concerns during its Jan. 7 meeting.

Unidentified Speaker (S2) told the court that the county approved a contractor to reseal the flat roof areas of the community center, install insulation and repair ceilings, and that the selected option carries a 20-year warranty: "So we got 20 years hopefully and and they have to come and fix it if anything does happen." Officials said recent rains have produced no leaks since the work began.

The court also told the public the community center would be available as a warming and shelter space during an incoming winter storm, with the meeting record noting the center might be open "Friday through Monday" for residents needing heat and shelter. The official urged residents to prepare supplies and to contact county staff if they need help.

During public comment, an attendee asked whether the county intended to pursue an interlocal agreement with the city water system, noting prior discussion about changing the county water structure. Court members said they would look into options and expressed willingness to convene exploratory talks with city leaders if it would serve county residents.
