Gainesville — The mayor and council unanimously approved a rezoning request on Nov. 4 that will allow a group home for men at 1725 Cleveland Highway Northeast.
The request, filed by Jeffrey Chase Adams of Restore 5 10, seeks to change a 0.46-acre tract from R-1 (single-family) to Neighborhood Business with a special use to operate a transitional group home for up to five men. Planning staff described the property as a 1960-era two-bedroom, one-bath ranch house on a site in the gateway corridor overlay; staff and the planning board recommended conditional approval with eight conditions.
Chase Adams, executive director for Restore 5 10, told council the organization plans to meet all eight conditions and intends the home to provide six-month transitional housing and educational support to men who have completed a drug rehabilitation program. "We do plan to meet and adhere to all 8 conditions that have been given to us," Adams said.
Council moved to approve the rezoning ordinance and a corresponding zoning resolution, each carrying eight conditions; both motions passed unanimously. With the approvals, the applicant may proceed with renovations and obtain required permits subject to the listed conditions.
The council returned to other business after the vote.
