Gainesville presents Leadership Academy graduates, welcomes new council member

The Gainesville Mayor and Council recognized the Gainesville Leadership Academy Class of 2025 and several city staff and department representatives during the Oct. 21 meeting.
Jane Ann Allison and the mayor led a presentation naming graduates from the academy, including Alejandro Chacon Menezes, Chrissy Smith, Russ Chambers, Sarah Hunt, Hillary Cochran and Casey Path. The mayor also read a roster of city staff and department representatives in attendance from public works, community services, parks and recreation, human resources, the convention and visitors bureau, public relations, municipal court, IT, police and financial services.
The mayor welcomed Ryan Thompson, who was introduced as taking the seat in place of Danny Dunigan. "Well, I appreciate it, Sam. Well, I just wanted to say thanks for, all of you guys putting your faith in me, and I look forward to helping, you know, serve Gainesville and and Ward 1," Thompson said.
Council members offered brief remarks of thanks and local updates, including praise for the Gainesville airport and a community festival. The mayor and council then moved on to the consent agenda and regular business; no public comments were received.
The meeting concluded after routine business and recognition of the academy graduates.
