The Vermillion City Council on Jan. 20 approved awarding the city’s janitorial services contract to ServiceMaster of Southeast South Dakota, the low bidder at $48,857.76 per year.
Staff reported that the city had solicited bids and received two proposals. Staff said the second bid required an adjustment because the bidder submitted monthly pricing rather than the required annual pricing; after adjustment that bidder’s price increased to $100,364.76 per year. Staff recommended awarding the contract to the incumbent ServiceMaster, noting the 2026 budget includes sufficient funding for the contract.
City staff (identified in the transcript as Jose) stated, “staff recommends awarding the contract or the bid to Service Masters of Southeast South Dakota for a total of $48,857.76.” Councilor Lieber moved to approve the low bid; Councillor Cheeseman seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
The award covers the city’s identified facilities for the contract term described in the bid documents; the council did not amend contract scope or funding during the meeting.
