Residents raise berm safety concerns; council names Brenda Martin 2025 Senior Volunteer and confirms Chris Harris as mayor pro tem

During public comment at the June 9 Katy City Council meeting, Alexis Kerko, who lives in Pin Oak Village (outside the city limits but adjacent), told council that a berm constructed to buffer the neighborhood from Katy Mills has increasingly been used as a walkway by pedestrians and dogs. Kerko said city 'no trespassing' signs that once marked the berm have been removed and asked the city to fund a fence or hedge to restore privacy and security for about 46 homes backing to the berm.
"The berm was put in place to protect the neighborhood," Kerko said. "So my request is to please help us as your neighbors." She said she and others had sent photos to the city and would be willing to discuss solutions further.
Earlier in the meeting Mayor Dusty Beale read a proclamation recognizing Brenda Martin as the City of Katy 2025 Senior Volunteer of the Year for her volunteer work with schools and community groups. Council invited Martin and council members forward for photos.
The council also confirmed Councilmember Chris Harris as mayor pro tem following a motion and second; Harris thanked his family and noted the council’s busy agenda ahead.
