Ron Nelson of the county engineering office updated commissioners on several transportation projects. He said the Country Club Road project remains on schedule and that right-of-way work is proceeding. Nelson warned that jurisdictional determinations handled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are temporarily slowed by a federal shutdown of regulatory staff, which could affect timelines for some projects.
Nelson reported the notice to proceed for the US 80 at Akins Pond Road traffic-signal project was issued effective Nov. 3, 2025; the contractor’s first task is a 90-day submittal process with GDOT procurement and approvals before field work expected in 2026. He also noted a $7.1 million Reeves Construction contract for US 301 work and said Cypress Lake Road’s bridge replacement is currently projected for an August 2027 opening to traffic.
Commissioners asked for further scheduling detail; Nelson said he would follow up at the next meeting if more concrete schedules become available.
