Jones County approves new stage curtains and projector for county arts venue

Jones County commissioners on Feb. 3 approved a request from Jones County Arts to replace deteriorating stage curtains, add a mid-traveler track system and purchase a short-throw projector for county facilities.
Lisa Miles, speaking for Jones County Arts, said the existing curtains are “literally disintegrating as we speak,” described safety issues for children using the stage and presented vendor quotes and technical options, including a psyc (projection) surface and short-throw lens to allow projection close to the screen. Miles said she had quotes from a regional AV vendor and retail pricing to show expected costs and asked the board to move the project forward so new curtains could be in place before the group’s summer show.
County staff noted that a prior budget action set aside leftover funds that could be used for the project; the staff remark in the transcript referenced “some $20.15 leftover ... money,” a phrase that is not clearly formatted in the record and therefore is recorded here as "amount not specified" pending staff confirmation. Commissioners and other speakers praised the arts program’s work and supported the request; a motion to approve the curtain and projector request was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
