Hospital authority reports multimillion-dollar returns to Bulloch County, presents roughly $1.8M check

Patricia Hunter, chair of the hospital authority, briefed Bulloch County commissioners on the authority’s annual report and its intergovernmental agreement, noting the authority’s long-term practice of returning earnings to the county.
Hunter told the board the authority’s governing documents allocate 80% of earnings to county tax relief, 10% to community health-care grants and 10% to the authority’s operating corpus. "In the 29 years that we've existed, we've given the county $39,215,000 for tax relief," she said, and reported health-care grants of "almost $5,000,000, 4,901,000." Hunter said the authority recently presented a check to the chairman "for $1,815,000" to be used for tax relief, describing it as the largest single check since the 2008 financial crisis.
Commissioners and attendees thanked authority members for the contribution and for what several called conservative investment stewardship. A commissioner noted the check was a significant and unusual deposit and encouraged continued collaboration between the authority and county government.
