Gainesville council approves consent agenda, schedules May special election and adopts transit safety plan

The Gainesville mayor and council unanimously approved a set of consent items at a January meeting, including street acceptance, an intergovernmental agreement for emergency water connections, a resolution authorizing a special election to fill a council seat, and a transit safety plan prepared for federal compliance.
City Attorney Ab Hayes summarized the consent package, saying the first item would accept “a small portion, a remainder of Millside Parkway as a city street after development.” He described the second item as an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County to allow reciprocal emergency water connections. On the special-election resolution, Hayes said qualifying for the seat will be March 2–4 and the election will be held May 19; he also noted Hall County adjusted the absentee-registration deadline to March 2. Hayes summarized the fourth consent item as a public transportation agency safety plan prepared by Phillipa Lewis Moss pursuant to Federal Transit Administration requirements.
A motion to approve the January 6 meeting minutes was moved and seconded and passed unanimously. Councilmember May moved to approve the four consent resolutions and the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor nominated Ryan Thompson to the Chattahoochee Golf Course Advisory Committee; the nomination was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
City Attorney Ab Hayes reported no additional attorney issues and City Clerk Grayson said she had no clerical items. The council announced no need for an executive session and adjourned the meeting.
The special election timeline noted in the resolution is: qualifying March 2–4; absentee-registration deadline March 2; election May 19. The resolution states the elected term will run through Dec. 31, 2029.
