City unveils interactive Business Campus property portal to aid site evaluation

City staff demonstrated an interactive available‑properties portal for the Wausau Business Campus at the Feb. 3 Economic Development Committee meeting. The portal replaces a static map and provides detailed site data — acreage, stormwater capacity, water utility locations, wetlands, highway access and contact information — intended to help developers and small businesses determine whether to pursue sites.
A presenter walked through the portal's interactive features, noting it shows "everything from wetlands to where the highways are" and allows users to see shovel‑ready sites and utility details. Staff said city staff (including Carrie Edmondson) reviewed the data for accuracy and that one site on Innovation Way is being pursued for Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) site certification.
The committee thanked staff for the tool; no formal action was taken. The city said the portal is intended to encourage more developers and small businesses to consider locating in the Business Campus.
