Committee approves AssetWorks-related contract item; director clarifies operating vs. capital funding

Committee Chair Robin Wansley asked Public Works staff to clarify whether the AssetWorks contract falls under the capital budget or the department's operating budget. Christopher Royston, director of the Fleet Service Division, explained that the AssetWorks system includes multiple modules: the modules the city currently uses (fuel management and related operational modules) are covered by operating dollars, while procurement of a new motor-pool module would be treated as a capital purchase and funded from capital dollars.
"We utilize fluid focus, and fuel management system. Those are ongoing systems that we currently use, and for obvious reasons, they're part of our operational budget," Royston said. He added that any new module added to the AssetWorks platform initially would likely be funded from capital dollars.
Wansley thanked Royston for the clarification and for following up with the constituent who raised the question. The committee moved the item for approval and approved it by voice vote.
