Parks & Rec reports: LED field conversions, all-access playground bids and summer festivals planned

Parks & Recreation Director Pawlowski briefed the Recreation Advisory Board on a series of capital projects and upcoming events.
Pawlowski said nearly all athletic fields have been converted to LED lighting, with only one field remaining under warranty work; she said the switch to LED should yield operating-cost savings and improved lighting focus. She reported the porta-catur at the cultural center is “basically done,” with only punch-list items remaining and that the Veterans Park project will be presented to the council for approval in February.
Other updates included completion of additional disc golf pads, a pre-bid meeting scheduled for an all-access playground at the north area of Commons Park with a goal to complete work by July 4, a roof replacement and repainting of concession areas at the CATS field, and outreach plans for the Shakespeare Festival (moving to Veterans Park theater for free performances) and the three-day West Fest at Commons Park.
Pawlowski said staff are holding off on selling full-year fitness or pickleball memberships until they can finalize the rec center schedule — currently only half-year sales are being offered through June 1 to avoid refund complications if schedules change.
The advisory board received the updates; several items will proceed to council review or to formal bid processes.
