Jackson County Schools board approves routine consent agenda, construction proposals and two buses

The Jackson County Schools board moved through a packed consent agenda and approved several routine and project items in a single meeting.
After a brief recognition period for students and Coach Byrd, the board approved bills and claims, accepted minutes of the Dec. 15, 2025 meeting, reestablished positions and approved fundraisers. Board members present (named during roll calls) voted in the affirmative on each consent item.
The board adopted the 2026 regular meeting schedule, updated the district's check distribution schedule and approved the Jackson County Schools allocation formula for the 2026‑27 school year. Members also approved assistance for Munis journal entries and agreed to discuss or take action on Cadell Construction's proposal for renovation and additions at Sand Gap Elementary and Tyner Elementary.
The board approved attendance at the KSBA annual conference in Louisville for the superintendent and board members and approved the secretary attending the COSA annual conference. It also approved an AmeriCorps Volunteer Generation Fund memorandum of understanding for the district.
On transportation, staff said "We have 2 ready to purchase" and reported the fleet list included about 41 buses with 39 drivers. The board approved the purchase of two buses and discussed surplusing older units if they are only useful for parts.
The board also approved an SFCC construction offer of assistance, creation of a sixth‑grade baseball coach position at the middle school (salary to be set within the salary schedule process), participation in a Class A School Baseball Conference and an emergency substitute certification for a student teacher. No members of the public had signed up to speak during public comment.
All motions noted in the meeting were made, seconded and recorded as approved by the members present. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed.
