Council approves first reading to rezone RPC Road parcels for self-storage

York County Council approved first reading of rezoning case 25-54 on Feb. 2, allowing three parcels off RPC Road to be rezoned from UD and RMX-10 to GC for a proposed self-storage facility.
Thomas Newman, the county’s long-range planner, described the application and said surrounding parcels include GC and OI zoning; the planning commission recommended approval by a 7–0 vote. Opponents said the use did not match the future land-use expectation for employment uses and warned similar developments can become visually unappealing. Mac Barrett, a professional engineer contracted by the developer, presented Condev’s development experience and provided the developer’s business address for the public record.
After closing the public hearing, a councilmember moved and the council approved first reading by unanimous voice vote.
