Summary
EMA briefed commissioners that the county suffered one weather‑related fatality during the late‑January storm, recognized volunteers who logged long hours, and requested replacement vehicles; commissioners discussed asking the county council for funding for four new trucks.
At the Feb. 2 Grant County meeting, the county's Emergency Management representative reported on response and recovery from a recent winter storm, warned that a yellow travel advisory remained in effect and said staff would produce an after‑action report for FEMA.
"We did have 1, the fatality, weather related fatality in the county. It occurred on the thirtieth, of January," the EMA representative said.
The EMA representative thanked county highway crews and volunteers for response work and recognized two volunteers by name, awarding certificates of appreciation to Jim Hendy (acknowledged for at least 160 logged hours) and Jim Garrett (credited with extensive fleet maintenance work). "These guys are usually the last ones to leave a scene and we appreciate all they do," he said.
Commissioners then discussed EMA equipment needs. The representative said the agency was down three vehicles and a fourth was "hanging by a thread," describing the situation as "dire." He recommended replacing multiple trucks — noting trucks are preferable for the equipment EMA carries — and commissioners agreed to take the request to the county council as an additional appropriation for four trucks.
No final appropriation was approved at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to develop a financing schedule and a cost estimate for presentation to the council.
