Summary
Residents of Sarah Retreat and Cross Creek Lane told the council February storm debris and Arundo growth have filled the creek, eroded land and damaged the Adamson House and local roads; residents asked staff to press State Parks and consider dredging and other remediation.
Residents from Sarah Retreat and Cross Creek Lane asked the Malibu City Council on Sept. 23 to intervene after severe storm damage and sediment deposition in Sarah Creek damaged property and threatened infrastructure.
Anne Payne described storm-related debris and erosion that reached the Adamson House and said she had asked staff to post photographs so the council could see the extent of the damage. Payne said experts and a letter from a Dr. Reinhard Noor to State Parks described a bifurcation of the creek caused by storm damage that worsened erosion.
Neighbor Shelley Kramer (Kremo in the record) said she had lost about five feet of private property to creek encroachment and had personally spent about $125,000 excavating mud, debris and refuse from her property. Kramer asked the council to “hear our story” and urged assistance because the problem is recurring and worsening.
Council response and next steps: Council members said staff would contact State Parks and Fish and Game to pursue possible dredging or other remediation, and several council members suggested placing the issue on a future agenda so staff can report back. The city manager offered to reach out to the State Park superintendent the following day and report back to council.
