Liberty County OKs one-year renewal with Frontier K2 for solid-waste collection

The Liberty County Commissioners Court approved a one-year extension of the county—s solid-waste collection and disposal contract with Frontier K2 LLC, extending RFP 2504 through Feb. 7, 2027. Purchasing staff said the renewal is the first of up to three one-year renewal options under the original four-year contract.

Commissioners said they were generally satisfied with Frontier—s performance. A commissioner noted capacity pressures at the Tarkenton drop-off location and suggested evaluating an additional station "on South of Cleveland" during the next budget cycle to relieve congestion.

A staff member told the court the annual contract value is $428,009.65 (the transcript also contains an apparent duplicate cents figure). Commissioners asked about truck weights and road compliance. One commissioner asked whether Frontier—s trucks stay under the county—s 58,000-pound threshold when fully loaded; staff and contractor representatives said the trucks would remain under that threshold and comply with county road standards. Staff also noted overweight citations can begin at about $10,000.

County staff explained the contract includes a base term and annual addenda for renewals and reiterated that either party has the right to exercise or decline renewal options at the scheduled times. After discussion a motion to approve the renewal was moved and seconded; commissioners voted in favor and the presiding officer declared the motion carried.
