WVU representative presents proclamation recognizing National School Counselor Week to Monongalia County

Seth Edwards, speaking on behalf of the West Virginia University counseling program, appeared at the Monongalia County Commission meeting on Feb. 4 to present a proclamation designating Feb. 2–6, 2026 as National School Counselor Week.
Edwards read the proclamation text that emphasized school counselors’ roles in helping students reach their potential and in supporting academic, career and social-emotional development. He asked the commission to adopt the proclamation on behalf of the counseling program.
Speaker 4 moved to approve the proclamation as read; Speaker 3 seconded, and the commission approved it by voice vote. After the vote commissioners and Edwards exchanged brief remarks about the value of counseling programs and took a photo.
Edwards told commissioners the WVU counseling program is a two-year program that offers simultaneous tracks for school counseling and clinical mental health. Commissioners thanked the presenter and asked to be kept informed about opportunities to assist the program.
