Summary
The Senate perfected a substitute to SB 937 on Feb. 3, adding two conveyances and ordering the bill printed. The measure packages 13 property sales or conveyances across multiple districts, prompting questions about tenant notice and relocation of state services such as driver's license offices.
The Senate perfected and ordered printed a substitute to Senate Bill 937 on Feb. 3, a multi‑property conveyance measure that includes 13 parcels across the state. Sponsor Senator from Cole said the Office of Administration proposed most of the conveyances and told members whose districts are affected. The substitute added two more conveyances: property for Northwest Missouri State University rodeo facilities and a Cole County parcel associated with a bridge project.
Senators asked detailed questions about specific properties, tenant notification and continuity of state services. In Springfield, senators noted that an underutilized downtown office building (149 Park Central Square) houses services such as a driver's‑license testing site and that moving or selling such property raises questions about where services will be relocated and how tenants will be informed.
"Office administration has talked to all the senators whose districts are affected by these land conveyances," the sponsor said, adding handouts describing each parcel had been distributed. Colleagues in affected districts said they appreciated the outreach but asked for follow‑up on relocation plans and the possible impacts on employees and constituents.
After questions and assurances that affected senators had been contacted, the Senate voted to declare the substitute perfected and ordered it printed. The bill remains on the calendar for future consideration and any required local follow‑up by the Office of Administration.
