Riverview — At its Feb. 2 meeting the Riverview City Council heard several community announcements from recreation staff and local volunteers.
Recreation staff said the city pond has been cleared for skating during daytime hours and that one light stand is available for limited evening skating through 10 PM; speakers emphasized that skating is at participants’ own risk. The clerk and council referenced a joint comedy show by the Riverview Recreation Department and the Riverview Rotary scheduled for Feb. 20; residents were directed to the recreation department Facebook page or to call (734) 281-4219 for details.
Sandy Meeks, vice president of the Riverview Hall of Fame, provided the most extended announcement: the Hall of Fame dinner will be held March 20 at 6:30 PM, the Hall of Fame committee will award six Hall of Fame scholarships to Riverview Community School District seniors plus additional scholarships, and Dean Workman will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Meeks also announced Brian Webb as this year’s Hall of Fame inductee. Meeks gave a Trenton address for the record when introducing herself.
Police Chief John Allen introduced new officer Travis Ziesmer and asked the council and community to welcome him to Riverview.
