Richland County completes administration building renovations, opens new courtroom

That move, officials said, created room for construction of a "brand new state of the art courtroom for the Common Pleas General Division."
Courtroom Number 4, the presenter said, "opened to the public in September" and "spans 2,700 square feet" with "modern finishes, new windows, custom furnishings, and enhanced security." The presenter added that the project also "includes a fully modernized jury room equipped with the technology and comfort necessary for effective deliberation."
Officials said the new courtroom increases the number of courtrooms available to the public by 33%, a change the presenter described as helping "to eliminate delays in the court's docket caused by limited space for trials and hearings."
Renovations extended beyond courtrooms. The presenter said the county modernized 4,600 square feet of common areas that dated to the building's original 1968 construction, installing brighter finishes, new ceilings with energy-efficient lighting and upgraded seating. The Land Bank offices were reconfigured from outdated space "that once included an old jail" into customized workspaces and a state-of-the-art boardroom, with an elevated public seating area added to improve the visitor experience.
All 10 of the building's restrooms "were fully updated with new fixtures, flooring, wall tile, and ADA compliant accessibility," the presenter said. The county also added a new break room and used wellness funds to upgrade an exercise room for employees and community control staff with quality fitness equipment to support staff well-being.
The project included a new training room for the Community Control Department intended to expand staff development opportunities supporting that department's rehabilitation mission. Critical infrastructure and security systems were modernized as well: the presenter cited upgrades to fire protection, electrical and HVAC systems, all equipped "with the latest digital controls."
The county said the combined improvements will allow the County Administration Building "to operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably for decades to come," and that the modernizations will improve government efficiency and the experience of residents doing business in Richland County. The announcement did not specify costs, funding breakdowns or a timeline for any remaining work.
