The Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 Board of Education on Aug. 27 approved several personnel actions and a revision to its meeting procedure, and received written updates on the FY25 budget and a planned HVAC replacement.
The board voted to hire Laurie Combs as assistant principal and early childhood supervisor at Woodwind Primary School for the 2024–25 school year, effective Aug. 26, 2024. The motion carried on a 4-0 roll-call vote. After the vote, the newly approved educator introduced herself and said she was "honored to be joining Woodland District 50" and looked forward to working with students, families and staff.
The board also adopted a revised Board of Education meeting procedure policy as presented; that motion likewise carried 4-0. In separate votes, the board approved adding one full-time-equivalent paraprofessional at Wineland Elementary School and one at Woodland Primary School for the 2024–25 school year, with each motion recorded as passing 4-0.
Associate Superintendent of Business Services Chris Bobek provided a written update on revisions to the FY25 budget since the board's June presentation and invited questions; board members had none and indicated the budget process could proceed. Board members also noted a memo from Mr. Adamic and Ms. Dizon regarding HVAC replacement work at Woodland Wind Middle School and the intermediate school; no questions were raised during the meeting about the memo.
There were no public comments at the meeting. The consent agenda — which included employment items, resignations and retirements, substitutes, donations, opening certain closed-session minutes to the public, revised board policies, minutes from June and August meetings, and July financial and treasurer reports — was approved unanimously.
An unidentified district speaker thanked the board for meeting during the day to address personnel and monetary items and said "it's been a wonderful start to the school year." The board adjourned after the remarks; the adjournment motion carried 4-0.
Note on name spelling: the agenda and motion text list the hire as "Laurie Combs," while the new hire introduced herself during the meeting using the surname spelled "Coombs" in the spoken record; both forms appear in the transcript.
