The Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 board on Oct. 24 approved a package of routine consent items, adopted revised board policies and agreed to prepare a board-level response to a parent's questions about an eighth-grade trip.
The consent agenda — which included employment approvals, resignations and retirements, substitutes, donations, a revised principal job description, the McTig curriculum consulting contract, a Lake County School mutual-aid agreement, revised policies, and monthly financial and treasurer reports — was amended to strike the policy committee meeting minutes for Oct. 10 and was approved by roll call (5–0).
Under action items, the board approved a proclamation recognizing American Education Week and a resolution designating Nov. 15, 2024, as School Board Member Day; both passed unanimously. The board also approved the superintendent performance communication and voted to adopt revised board policies with two follow-ups: policy 470 will return in November with a required summary, and policy numbering/‘if’→‘when’ language will be updated as discussed.
During correspondence review, the board discussed a letter questioning the change of the traditional eighth-grade boat trip to Enchanted Castle. Board members emphasized that operational decisions like trip logistics are administered by principals and the superintendent, not the board, but agreed the parent’s concerns should be acknowledged. The board directed staff to prepare a draft response and circulate it to board members for review at the next meeting.
The meeting closed after reports on FOIA requests (five requests summarized, including a parental request directed to student-records procedures), written reports on the FY25 maintenance grant and playground resurfacing, and committee updates on legislative advocacy and PTA activity. The board adjourned by roll call vote (5–0).
