At the Nov. 21 meeting, assistant superintendent Tricia Schroed presented the district’s update on two strategic plan goals — student identity and belonging (Goal 1) and collective efficacy (Goal 2) — and shared the 2023–24 kindergarten readiness data compiled from the Individual Development Survey.
Schroed said the district has prioritized culturally responsive instruction, staff professional development and surveys to measure student identity and belonging; she reported that 37 additional staff participated in beyond‑diversity training in August, bringing the total trained staff to 221 to date. On collective efficacy, Schroed described multi‑day professional learning opportunities ("studying the skillful teacher") and administrative evaluation tool development with planned readiness by July 2025.
On early‑childhood readiness, Schroed said the compiled 2023–24 survey data showed the district outperformed state averages on composite readiness measures and across monitored subgroups — including Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino students and students with individualized education plans — a reversal of earlier post‑COVID concerns. Primary school staff explained how observational evidence is gathered in the first 40 days, how teachers share results with families and how articulation meetings between kindergarten, first grade and specialists aim to maintain continuity for cohorts.
Board reaction: Members praised the work and asked for follow‑up on retention of staff who attended training; Schroed said she would provide follow‑up data. The board also highlighted efforts to embed student voice in curriculum and to use ongoing job‑embedded professional learning rather than one‑time workshops.
Next steps: Administration plans continued rollout of the family survey targeting registration by March 1, 2025, ongoing curriculum map work and additional articulation and professional learning sessions.
