Lindsay — Newly elected council members took the oath of office at a special city council meeting in December, and the council immediately filled its leadership posts.
Misty Villareal accepted a nomination for mayor and the council confirmed her appointment following a motion and second; she said, “I do accept.” Council also voted to appoint Flores as mayor pro tem by unanimous roll call.
The ceremonial portion of the meeting included formal recognition and thank-you speeches for outgoing members. Council members and staff highlighted recent accomplishments ranging from street repairs and water projects to events and downtown activations.
The swearing-in and leadership votes were followed by routine business and committee assignments. Council members were assigned to regional boards and local committees including Integrated Regional Water Management, the local groundwater sustainability agency, the Tulare County city selection committee and an economic development committee.
The council’s actions on leadership and committee appointments were procedural and carried by majority votes; no fiscal commitments were made at the time of the appointments.
