Residents press Monroeville on inconsistent park upkeep, road patching and post office accessibility

Residents used the Citizens Night period to press municipal officials on several operational concerns.

Bill Henry spoke first, identifying himself for the record and raising issues he described as related to stormwater and the municipality’s MS4 obligations. He asked whether anything could be done to address runoff that he said is affecting the American Legion and other properties.

Ray Barangowski then described two recurring problems. “I’d like to know why the resources aren’t being utilized at the the other parks,” he said, saying one park is consistently plowed and maintained while others are not. He also challenged the town’s approach to road repairs: “I’m just estimating my head maybe just to patch a hole…It’s about $50,” he said, arguing that repeated cold-patch repairs waste money and urging the municipality to adopt more durable methods.

A municipal staff member responded that cold patch is a temporary repair and may not hold under wet, freezing conditions; the staff member said the municipality has a plan but declined to discuss details in the public meeting, adding an offer to speak by phone.

Councilmember Williams raised a separate accessibility concern for the Monroeville post office, saying the branch lacks consistent assistance for residents with disabilities and urging postal staff to provide more direct service. Williams also appealed to residents politically while thanking the Cub Scouts for attending.
