Wausau parks panel recommends Mr. Alwin to run RiverLife concession stand

The City of Wausau Parks Committee voted unanimously Feb. 2 to recommend Mr. Alwin as the vendor to operate the RiverLife concession stand and will forward the recommendation to the City Council.
Alder Rasmussen raised concerns during the discussion that one of the two proposals under consideration "seems to overwhelm the area," arguing the intent of the building was for concession use rather than an event venue. "Where do you go with a 100 cars that show up?" Rasmussen asked, saying the larger plan risked outgrowing the space.
Alderman Neal moved to accept Mr. Alwin's proposal; Alder Rasmussen seconded the motion. The committee voted 5-0 in favor. The chair said the committee appreciated both submissions and that the recommendation will be presented to the City Council for final approval.
Committee members said they favored the proposal they felt better matched the site’s scale and existing programming. Alder Watson said she liked the ice-cream–style concept and noted the proposer’s interest in serving community needs.
The committee did not take additional conditions or amendments at the meeting; the City Council will receive the committee’s recommendation and make the final vendor selection.
