The Nantucket Land Bank described a coordinated move-off plan to remove existing structures from 41 Jefferson and relocate two buildings to town or land-bank-owned parcels (159 Hammock Pond Road and 158 Madaket). The applicant said units will be moved intact where feasible; the board approved move-off applications for three buildings with the proviso that preservation dates be recorded on Certificates of Appropriateness.
Commissioners discussed logistics and acknowledged one unit in the larger building will be demolished as part of the reconfiguration because moving the entire structure in one piece is not feasible. Preservation staff and the commission requested historic-date verification and asked staff to add the dates to COAs for the record. The board also approved a historic determination for Building 3 — the oldest structure on site — following the applicant’s explanation of age and the challenges of converting that unit to year-round occupancy.
The approvals are conditional on subsequent move-on site plans and compliance with preservation planning guidance; the applicants will return with specific siting and any required modifications for the destination parcels. The board recorded the approvals and required follow-up documentation to be added to the COAs.
