Longyear School Board approves consent agenda and two policy revisions

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Longyear School Board approved its regular meeting agenda and consent agenda, and passed second readings for two policy updates: an opioid overdose reversal policy and a policy clarifying prohibition of harassment of district staff.

A motion to approve the regular meeting agenda was made by Speaker 2 and seconded by Speaker 4; the motion passed by voice vote. The consent agenda — which the president said included the October 08/25/2025 regular meeting minutes, the personnel report dated today and warrants — was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.

During the second reading of policy 30‑04/24 (described in the packet as the opioid‑related overdose reversal policy), board members discussed language that referenced a "healthcare clinic" and whether the phrase applied to the district’s nurse offices. Board member Crystal raised that the district does not have an on‑site healthcare clinic and suggested language recognition for nurse offices; the board incorporated the clarification during the motion. Speaker 3 moved to approve revisions to the opioid policy and specifically recognized Crystal’s point that the district does not have a health clinic; the motion was seconded and then approved.

On the second policy, listed as 50‑11 (harassment of district staff prohibited), the board discussed minor clarifying edits and then voted to adopt the revisions. Speaker 3 moved to approve revisions; Speaker 2 seconded; the motion passed.

The meeting record shows the board moved to adjourn later in the evening and chose not to convene a scheduled closed session.

No fines, disciplinary actions or changes to bargaining agreements were recorded during the meeting.
