Longview board adopts updated transportation policy, discusses oath-of-office changes

The Longview School District board on Nov. 10 adopted an updated transportation policy (Policy 6600) during a work session and approved routine agenda and consent items.

A district staff member summarized the transportation policy as a WASA/WASDA model reflecting recent state legislative changes that strengthen protections for bus drivers and allow for stiffer sanctions for trespassing on buses. "This is a WASDA exemplar and is a result of some recent changes in legislation that protect our drivers, and have some pretty heavy sanctions at the state level for trespassing on our buses," a district official said during the second reading.

Board member (S3) moved to adopt Policy 6600 and the motion was seconded by Board member (S4); the board recorded multiple 'aye' votes and the president announced the motion passed. The board also approved the meeting agenda and the consent agenda (10/27/2025 minutes, personnel report and warrants) by voice votes earlier in the session.

Trustees also discussed Policy 1111 (oath of office). Staff said recent legislation and a WASDA model policy clarify that newly elected or reelected directors must take the full oath of office and that the oath should be filed with the county auditor. Staff referenced "RCW" and a House Bill in the discussion but the bill citation in the transcript was garbled; staff said the policy updates reflect those state changes.

No formal vote on Policy 1111 occurred at the Nov. 10 work session; staff said procedural questions (when the oath is filed and certification timelines) will follow once election certification is complete.

The board opened public comment and recorded none before adjourning at 6:45 p.m.
