Votes at a glance: Benton County approves routine permits, land-use change and EMS expenses

The Benton County Board of Supervisors approved a set of routine and substantive items at its Feb. 2 meeting, including expense payments for emergency medical services, a land-use change, a telecommunications permit, a liquor license renewal and family farm credits.

The board adopted the meeting agenda and approved two sets of minutes by unanimous voice vote. Following staff review, supervisors accepted EMS expense listings from multiple first-response agencies and ambulance services, totaling $118,907.65, with Speaker 2 moving the approval and the board voting in favor.

A land-use request from Ethan Henry to change the use of a parcel to allow an additional single-family dwelling was presented by county land-use staff and approved after discussion. County staff described the parcel (near Mount Auburn at 2170 55th Street), its corn suitability rating and flood-zone considerations; neighbors were notified and no unresolved objections remained.

The board approved a Windstream Communications utility permit for primarily buried fiber with a short overhead run through Iowa Township, with staff saying the proposal met county right-of-way requirements and requesting the chairman’s signature.

Supervisors also renewed a Class C alcohol license for Cherry Hills for 12 months and approved family farm credit applications for fiscal year 26 (one application was disallowed by the assessor; the remainder were approved).

All votes on these items were completed during the meeting; motions were seconded and carried by majority or unanimous board voice votes.
